As the wildly successful lifestyle e-commerce brand, Away, launched their iconic direct-to-consumer luggage pieces to market, they immediately pursued bricks-and-mortar to support brand awareness and online sales. In October 2016, while the company was still less than one year old, Sinvin secured Away’s concept store at 39.5 Crosby Street, a prominent corner on Broome Street which commanded the same amount of attention as the explosive brand. Positive customer feedback and strong sales data collected over the 9-month term confirmed the retail strategy a success and led to a quest for a larger, long-term flagship location.
After an extensive search, Sinvin identified and leased the brand’s first permanent retail location at 10 Bond Street, a thoughtfully designed new construction by Annabelle Selldorf. With 38 feet of all glass frontage and 13-to-25’ ceilings, the improved retail space served as a gleaming physical representation of the brand and a platform to inform future retail locations. The flagship location has prompted 6 additional store openings for Away in Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Chicago, Austin, and Boston.
Sinvin remained a dedicated advisor supporting Away’s real estate requirements as the company grew from 6 to 300+ employees. At the end of 2017, Sinvin began to survey both available and off market opportunities to identify a new headquarter office that could accommodate Away’s growing team, compliment the brand’s ethos, and attract future talent. In May 2018, Sinvin successfully secured Away’s 56,000 RSF HQ in central Soho at 503 Broadway, between Spring and Broome. The block-through, cast iron building features coveted large floor plates vital to facilitating cross communication between teams and a private branded lobby at 82 Mercer Street. The Away HQ currently accommodates all in-house operations including finance, creative, product development, legal, and executive teams.
