Blu Dot Opening Largest Store In New York

MINNEAPOLIS — Modern home furnishings retailer Blu Dot will open its second New York showroom and largest store to date on Madison Avenue this spring.

At 12,000 square feet, the store will be twice the size of Blu Dot’s average footprint and will features its full lineup of exclusive home furnishings, designed in-house and produced by global manufacturing partners, as well as collaborations, such as the charity-connected Blue Dot x Handsome bicycle.

Located at 79 Madison Avenue in the NoMad neighborhood near design brands including B&B Italia, Poliform and Moooi, the store will be two miles north of the retailer’s SoHo location on Wooster Street, which opened in 2008.

“Nomad is quickly becoming the go-to design district in Manhattan,” said Blu Dot Co-founder John Christakos. “We have had incredible growth in Manhattan since opening in SoHo eight years ago and are so excited to open this new flagship store alongside other great modern brands. … At over five times the size of our SoHo store, this will allow us to show our full collection, all of which is designed right here in our Minneapolis studio. “

Last year, the midpriced to high-end Blu Dot boosted its physical presence with the opening of stores in Chicago, Los Angeles and Mexico City. In addition to its e-commerce business, the retailer currently has nine U.S. stores — including units in Minneapolis, San Francisco and Austin — and three international stores, including in Sydney, Australia, and Monterrey, Mexico.

The company declined to disclose sales information or the breakdown of business online to in-store but said, “Bricks and clicks are equally important as we continue to grow our business.”

“While our website provides an information-rich, immersive, visual experience, nothing can replace the ability to touch and feel a design in person. We believe a balanced approach is the best way to serve our growing fan base.”
